Due to the complexities of international bank settlements and currency conversions, you may encounter the following two types of "anomalies" on your billing statement. Please rest assured that these are standard practices within the payment industry and do not affect the security of your assets.
Case 1: Actual Deduction Higher than Purchase Amount (Pre-authorization Markup)
In certain scenarios, you may notice that the real-time deduction is 20% to 30% higher than the listed price of the product.
Reason: This is a "Currency Fluctuation Margin" set by third-party payment platforms or merchants (such as hotels, car rentals, or international e-commerce sites). To protect against potential losses caused by sharp fluctuations in the USD exchange rate during the settlement period, merchants may pre-authorize an additional amount.
Resolution: Once the transaction is finalized, the merchant and the bank will settle based on the actual exchange rate. Any excess funds will be automatically refunded to your card balance.
Case 2: Abnormal Amount Displayed for Non-USD Currencies (Decimal Displacement)
This occurs most frequently when using currencies like Japanese Yen (JPY), Korean Won (KRW), Chilean Peso (CLP), or Vietnamese Dong (VND). You may see the transaction amount on your bill inflated by 100 times.
Reason: These currencies do not use decimals in their official measurement (i.e., they have no concept of "cents"). However, the underlying logic of some banks or clearing systems mandates two decimal places for all currencies.
Logic Example: If you pay $1.00 USD (represented as
100units in the backend), the system may incorrectly map the value100directly to the JPY field, displaying it as 100 JPY instead of the actual converted amount.Recommendation: As long as the USD settlement amount is correct, this display anomaly will not result in any extra charges and will not affect the normal use of your card.
